Stella Washington Bell

It is with great pride and admiration that we introduce Stella Washington Bell, a distinguished political leader and the First Female African American Mayor of Carroll County, Vaiden, Mississippi, born on April 21, 1965, Stella Washington Bell is the eldest daughter of George and the late Sarah Washington, and has been a cherished resident of Vaiden for her entire life.

Stella Washington Bell hails from a large family of nine siblings, where her innate sense of responsibility and leadership first took shape. Her lifelong dedication to her family and community is evident in her numerous contributions and tireless efforts to drive positive change in Vaiden.

Stella’s academic journey began in her hometown with education at Vaiden Head Start, North Vaiden Elementary, and Vaiden High School. Her professional path is marked by a diverse range of roles, from early jobs in local establishments to significant positions in various sectors. Notably, she served as a Secretary and Optometric Technician at Lucas Eye Clinic, worked as a Tax Specialist at H & R Block, and made a mark in the medical field with her certification as a Nursing Assistant from Amherst Career Center.

Her commitment to public service is exemplified by her tenure as Alderman for Town of Vaiden, where she contributed to local governance and community development. Stella’s academic achievements include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, an MBA, and ongoing doctoral studies in Physiology in Public Policy, where she is currently on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In her role as Chief Fiscal Officer at Central Mississippi, Inc., Stella Washington Bell oversaw substantial fiscal responsibilities and later transitioned to the Greenwood Leflore Hospital as a Fiscal Director and Accountant. Her pursuit of knowledge and growth extends to her recognition as a Graduate Researcher in Environmental Management and Sustainable Human Development.

Currently, Stella Washington Bell is an online instructor at Rust College, teaching Financial Literacy and Business Mathematics, and holds a prominent position on the Carroll County School Board of Trustees. She actively participates in several boards and committees, including the Carroll County Band Executive Board, the Carroll County Development Association Board, and the Mississippi Municipal League Legislative Committee.

Stella Washington Bell’s unwavering dedication to her community, coupled with her impressive academic and professional accomplishments, makes her an exceptional leader and advocate. Her passion for progress and education, combined with her extensive experience, continues to inspire and drive meaningful change in Vaiden.
