Daisy Carter-Slater is the Executive Director of Excel By 5, where she passionately champions early childhood education and community development across Mississippi. Before her current role, Carter led as the Executive Director of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence of the Central MS Area, Inc., where she became a trusted leader and advocate for individuals and families navigating recovery, treatment, and prevention.
Now at the helm of Excel By 5, Carter is dedicated to making a greater impact by identifying emerging trends in early childhood education, strengthening grassroots initiatives within Mississippi communities, and driving policy development. Her work focuses on addressing critical policy issues and advancing the organization’s mission through strategic advocacy.
A Jackson, Mississippi native, Carter holds a Master’s in Public Policy and Administration with a Concentration in Community and Economic Development from Jackson State University, where she is also nearing the completion of her Ph.D. in Public Policy Administration. Her unwavering commitment to fostering positive community and economic growth through education is central to her leadership.
Carter is also a devoted wife and mother of three children, balancing her professional and personal life with a deep commitment to her community.
