Shameka Reed

Shameka L. Reed is a multi-hyphenate entrepreneur with a passion for global education and cultural exchange. As the Founder and Executive Director of Global Gateways, a nonprofit organization, she is dedicated to expanding the horizons of young learners through language and cultural education. Under her leadership, Global Gateways has enriched the lives of over 600 elementary students in the Jackson Public School District (Jackson, Mississippi) by offering afterschool and summer camp programs focused on conversational Spanish, English, and cultural exploration. These programs go beyond language instruction, fostering personal growth, academic achievement, and a deep appreciation for global and local cultures. Through immersive experiences, students gain a greater understanding of intercultural dynamics and develop into global citizens.

Global Gateways also offers “International Summer,” a signature scholarship program that provides study abroad opportunities for HBCU students. Targeting those from low-income backgrounds, the program enables students to spend four weeks at ITESO University in Guadalajara, Mexico, with scholarships covering tuition, housing, and passport fees.

In addition to her work with Global Gateways, Shameka serves as the Chief Storyteller for Young, Gifted & Empowered Media (YG&E), a nonprofit multimedia platform celebrating the excellence and diversity of Black culture in Mississippi and the South. Branded as “Good For The Culture,” YG&E Media produces the YG&E Awards, YG&E TV (available on ROKU, iOS, and Android), and YG&E Magazine. Through innovative storytelling and Black-owned content, YG&E Media aims to entertain, enlighten, and inspire, using media as a tool to unite communities and drive positive change.

Shameka resides in Jackson, Mississippi, where she is an active member of New Jerusalem Church, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, the Junior League of Jackson, and serves on the board of the Greater Jackson Leadership Foundation. She remains deeply engaged with her local community and committed to making a global impact.
